In a large sauce pan bring just to the boiling point:
1 1/2 cup milk
Remove from heat and stir in :
1/3 cup shortening
1/4 cup sugar
2 t salt
2 t nutmeg
1/4 t cinnamon
When lukewarm add:
4 3/4 cup flour
3-4 eggs
2 yeast cakes softened in 1/4 cup lukewarm water
Beat dough until well mixed. Cover pan and let stand in a slightly warm place until dough is light and doubles in bulk, about 50-60 minutes. Roll dough lightly (avoiding stretching)until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into doughnuts with a 3 inch cutter. Let rise again then deep fry in fat until brown.
