Mrs. Olschewdki's Marble Cake (Lois Whitaker)

Almond Marble Cake
1 c shortening
2 c sugar
3 eggs
4 c flour
1 t salt
chocolate chips and or nuts if desired
5 t baking powder
1 t vanilla
3 t almond flavoring
2 c milk
3 T cocoa with 1 t hot water to form paste

Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and beat until light. Add flavorings, then add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Make paste of cocoa and hot water. Divide batter in half and add cocoa past to one half. Pour white , then chocolate batter into a greased and floured angel food pan. Stir a few time to make marble design. Bake at 350 for 60 minutes. Remove from pan while warm. Nuts and chocolate chips or cherries may be added to make the cake more festive. May use a large bunt pan in place of an angel food cake pan.
